Let’s chat about something that’s been on my mind lately—helping clients find their wedding attire. I have a confession. Yes, I help my clients find their attire and no I don’t charge for it and I’m here to spill the beans about why!
First…let’s dive into a topic that often leaves wedding planners scratching their heads – billing and the percentage game. Trust me, it’s a conversation worth having!
I think it’s important to take a step back and understand that we bill on a percentage overall. Some folks might think we’re just trying to squeeze every last penny out of them. But that is not the case!
Here’s the secret sauce…
One way that I combat that conversation when I’m talking to couples is by telling them, “don’t think of it as the percentage for your photographer covers your time for your photographer…it’s the percentage overall that covers our time overall”. And yes, there are a bunch of freebies!
For example, we’re happy to recommend a great city for wedding attire shopping, book appointments, and even create a itinerary for them. We’re happy to provide guidance but we don’t charge a percentage for that specific service. It just doesn’t feel fair or ethical, you know?
Think about it this way—I don’t spend any extra time whether a client is rocking a $5,000 dress or a $25,000 dress. So why should we charge extra? It’s all about being ethical and fair in our approach!
Now, there might be situations where things get a little more involved… If I find myself attending multiple appointments, picking up and steaming tuxedos, and helping everyone get dressed on the big day – that’s a different story. In cases like that, it is crucial to have a contract that covers us and ensures we’re compensated for the extra time and effort.
So, my friend, always make sure your contract has your back and accounts for any additional services that go beyond the norm. It’s all about being protected and ensuring a smooth and fair experience for both you and your clients!
