Hello There, PARTY PEOPLE, And Welcome To The All New Blog!
This is a place for us to keep all the party particulars, a place you can come to learn, to connect, to seek validation, or… all of the above!
If you’re in the wedding world, especially if you’re in the luxury events world, you know that the concept of a work-life balance just is not a thing. BUT it can be beautiful! 🐝
The key is to communicate clearly with your clients about your boundaries and expectations…
But before we dive in, let’s get to know each other better! 💁🏻♀️
Hi! I’m Kate Turner, a luxury event planner and designer based in Saint Louis, Missouri with my wonderful Husband and our three boys. I am currently booking my 12th season with Kate + Company and celebrating my 16th year in the industry. I love to cook, am currently binging old Grey’s Anatomy, and frequently host 90’s dance parties in my kitchen with my littlest loves! I created Kate’s Party People for wedding planners, coordinators, and designers to learn from our successes, our failures, and every moment in-between. 💕
NOW back to work life balance…or lack thereof! Let’s chat about how to set boundaries to ENJOY the beauty of not having work-life balance. The beauty of this business is I can have a hair appointment on a Tuesday morning followed by an evening of client appointments.
The key is to communicate clearly with your clients about your boundaries and expectations! I have found that most clients actually appreciate when I say, “I’m in mom mode right now, I would love to look this up for you when my kids go to bed tonight.”
In the luxury event world, our clients want access and they want it now. They’re not interested in downloading a new app or learning to communicate on a new platform. Our job is to adjust our process to how the client works best, not to ask them to work how we work best.
And by not trying to fit a square peg into a round hole, I can build a better relationship with my clients and tailor my services to their unique needs!
That’s the beauty of not having work-life balance – the freedom to adjust our schedules to meet the needs of our clients! Similarly, the beauty is to build a life we want. A life that allows us to be present for our friends and family while supporting our clients in a way that feels good for everyone.
This doesn’t mean I sacrifice my personal life for my business. Instead, I have learned the importance of setting boundaries and managing my workload. I’ve reframed how I think about taking on a wedding. No longer is it about availability or booking a certain number of weddings each year. Instead, Kate + Company has worked long and hard to understand the direct correlation to budgets managed and hours worked. 💰📆
This means I don’t overbook myself, or my time, which allows me to provide a high level of service without burning out. I can make my sons school plan and my clients tasting! It’s a win-win all around.
At the end of the day, building a successful wedding business requires us to be adaptable and flexible. By communicating clearly with our clients about our boundaries and expectations, we can custom tailor our services to meet their needs while also taking care of ourselves!
So, my fellow wedding professionals, let’s embrace the beauty of not having work-life balance and focus on creating a fulfilling and fun business. And don’t forget to schedule in those little moments of self-care, like a Tuesday morning hair appointment! 😉💆♀️💕
